![]() [May 2010] Invited by Vienna's top VJ act 4yourEye, this is Oli Sorenson first solo gallery exhbition in a few years. Taking on the mapping theme, Oli has added a new twist, a more personal touch to the genre. He does not try to perfectly match the shape of a physical object with his videos, but instead is voluntarily distorting them with random objects. The result works to mesmerizing effects, similar to optical art in painting.
As well as drawing closure on the artist formerly known as Anyone, Subject 0's underlying themes draw from vanity to celebrity culture, within a playful fusion of audio and visuals. The soundtrack from Subject 0 was exclusively selected from tracks on the Multiverse label, and results in a dark and eclectic mix between minimal techno, dubstep and ambient music. Musical artists include October, Pinch, Moving Ninja and more. Oli Sorenson is currently touring Subject 0 in many festivals, and has released it on DVD in PAL with MixMash, and NTSC with DVJ Vision. [new] Mastering Quartz Composer is a book and DVD project authored by Shakinda & Surya Buchwald, to be published by Pearson. Started nine months ago, this project aims to introduce Quartz Composer as a very powerful and fun graphical programming environment. Despite its massive potential for real-time audio reactive solutions, Quartz Composer is still mainly publicized for the creation screensaver, and remains woefully under-used as a visualization tool. The Mastering Quartz Composer book could change this forever. This book and DVD shows the full potential of Quatz Composer, from taking a complete novice through the software setup process and getting to grips its interface, all the way to enabling the modelization of complex 3d audio reactive environments, midi interaction, to retrieving online database information.
